4/5/08  Randlay 3 v Wrekin 2  (Friendly)

A good game to finish off with, played in good humour.

A cagey start, both sides keen to win the midfield and good in defence. It was not surprising then that it was Hayden who scored first, after 35 mins, with another powerful shot from 30 yards into the top corner from a cleared Randlay corner kick.

As appears the pattern, Randlay couldn’t take this advantage in to half time and Wrekin equalised on 40 minutes.

The second half started as the first had and it was 24 minutes before Shaun made one of his strong runs, missing in recent weeks. The goal settled Randlay and they had a period of good play and pressure. It was now Sams turn to run at the Wrekin defence and a squared ball into the Wrekin 6yard box was converted by Stevo.

Wrekin continued to play, pulling a goal back on 38 minutes.

20/4/08 Albrighton 5 v Randlay 2  (Friendly)

The game started on a pitch completely covered with snow. Albrighton keen to get a game under their belt, with a cup final to play the following week. With goalkeeper Ruggy out injured, Gareth Baker volunteered to wear the gloves.

Randlay settled in to their game first, using the full width of the pitch in attack. At the back, an already changed defence had to reorganise with Craig having to leave the pitch after 15mins, but were very effective, if a little fluid.

At 39 minutes Hayden hit a magnificent 35yard lofted shot over the stranded Albrighton keeper.

It was a bitter blow, when after 46 mins, a shot from 30 yards, hit a lump of compacted snow 5 yards in front of a waiting Gareth in goal. The ball changing direction violently and what was to be an easy collect by the keeper now meant the ball pass him on his right side, on its way in to the net.

Randlay continued to apply pressure, but 4 second half goals from Albrighton (3 in 9 minutes), were only answered by a single Randlay goal, a close range header from the now recovered Craig.

Man of the Match, Gareth Baker – a good performance as stand-in goalkeeper.

16/3/08 Randlay  4 v Shifnal 3   (League)

A game to forget. Randlay falling in to the trap of not showing Shifnal any respect and nearly paying the price. Stand in goalkeeper Chris was not afforded the protection he should have had and congratulations to Shifnal who seized on to the opportunity offered to so very nearly take something from the game.

Randlay goals from Craig, Stevo, Shaun and Mussy.

Man of the match – Chris for taking the gloves, but unfortunately the best performers were all in Shifnal shirts!

  23/2/08  Randlay  1 v Oakengates   Colts (League)

Neither team really performed - for no apparent reason. Randlay were certainly a bit dis-jointed, failing to set up their normally efficient passing triangles out of midfield. As a consequence, the game was a scruffy succession of ball won and lost in midfield, with a minimum of good possession in either final third.

Randlays goal came from Sam, pick of the strikers, after 20 mins from a Tissy cross. Oakengates equalised 4 mins later.

Man of the Match – Jason Nandan.

10/02/08   Broseley 0,  Randlay Colts 2

The late non-availability of goalkeeper Ruggy meant a bit of a re-think.

I would like to say that the team pulled together to overcome this problem, but the reality was that a 'team' was the last way to describe the players who turned out for Randlay.

These last few competitive games should be an opportunity to demonstrate the teams progress and serve as a fitting way to reward years of commitment from all who have made it possible for each training session and game to happen.

What those parents and others watching actually witnessed, was a group of young men without discipline or self respect.

2 goals from Stevo (a free kick for a passbackon 6 minutes and a finish from a tight angle on 20 minutes)   were enough to secure a comfortable win which should have been much more in many ways.

Man of the Match was Lewis who, along with Gareth, were able to push up and in conjunction with Craig and Sunny formed too strong a defence for Broseley to break down.

03/02/08   All Saints 0,  Randlay Colts 8

On a very cold day, the game was switched to Stirchley ( Sutton Hill pitch not playable).

Randlay started well, an early shot from Shaun coming back off the cross bar for Sam to finish at close range (5 mins). On 12 minutes Shaun hit a looping shot from 40 yards, which in fairness to the All Saints keeper - gave him little chance, as it dipped on after passing him. Sam continued his lively start and on 20 minutes he turned and shot just inside the 18 yard box to make it 3-0.

The game saw both sides awarded a penalty for handball in the area. Both were a little harsh, but there were no complaints from either side and the referee had a very good game. Randlays penalty, was, as has become custom now, confidently despatched by Stevo on 34 mins.

To make matters worse for All Saints, their Penalty was hit wide.

Stevo scored a second in the last minute of the first half to make it 5-0 at the break.

Randlay continued to have the better of the game in the second half, taking the opportunity to use all 4 subs from the restart and rotate players from their normal positions.

Stevo completed his hat-trick after 10 minutes of the second half and, as is our norm, was then substituted - only to later return as Goalkeeper!

5 minutes later Jason was on the scoresheet with a typically strong finish.

Goalkeeper Mathew needed only a 5 minute cameo as Striker, to get his first goal of the season, a clean finish of a low ball across the box.

The spine of the team performed really well, Hayden was able to be rested towards the end of the game, having played a Telford game the previous day and Stevo capped another energetic performance with 3 goals. Both central defenders, Craig and Sunny had good games, Craig holding on to the ball to ensure good distribution and Sunny taking opportunities to step out of the back line to press the ball higher up the field. Chris confirmed his flexibility with stints at both left and rightback.

Man of the match was Sunny.

06/01/08  Bridgnorth Blacks 0,  Randlay Colts 3   (League)

After the Christmas break it was good to see us start the game at a good tempo. After 30 minutes however, we had still not converted good possession and a number of chances, into a goal. Sam came on as a fresh striker and within a minute had run on to a well timed through ball from Steevo. Although injured as he beat the last defender Sam got his shot away and showed even more determination to slide the ball past the keeper after he had parried the first shot. Unfortunately this was his only contribution to the game - as he had to leave the field with a pulled hip muscle.

The game continued with Randlay not able to convert their possession in to goals until 10 minutes from time, when Hazim was fouled in the Bridgnorth penalty area. Steevo duly converted the penalty.

With basically the last kick of the game, Hazim capped a good performance  by scoring from a narrow angle.

Man of the match was Tom, who was magnificent in both the attacking and defensive duties of his right sided midfield role.

.

16/12/07  Oakengates Rangers 0, Randlay Colts 1  (League)

A good game against 2 evenly matched sides. Both sides used the whole of the pitch whilst attacking, but such was the commitment shown in midfield and the quality of each defence, that goals (and indeed quality chances) were scarce.

It was mid way through the second half before a Sam free kick was headed across the 6 yard box by Craig, for Joe to smash home. Well done to all who played, for a very controlled and patient display. Man of the Match was Mathew in goal, it was not his busiest game, but it became apparent early on that anything but a clean sheet could pose us a problem.

.

9/11/07 Randlay v Oak Colts (League) - Postponed Pitches Waterlogged

.

02/12/07   Albrighton 3, Randlay 0 (League Cup Quarter Final)

Whilst accepting that Albrighton were the better side, it's probably also fair to say that we had the worst of any luck going.

Indeed, on another day, with all playing to their abililty and luck evenly distributed, it may have been possible to get a result.

The truth is that we had too many players not at their best and against a good Albrighton side, this was always going to be too big a hurdle to climb.

That said there was no shortage of effort and all 3 Albrighton goals had an element of the good fortune missing in Randlay's play.

Man of the Match was Mathew in goal for a complete display of keeping.

Best wishes to Albrighton in the final and thanks for the post match hospitality shown.

.

25/11/07    Randlay  4, Bridgnorth Blacks 0 (league)

After the defensive focus of the last game, the team were able to show their passing game. Whilst the ball still had to be won, the team were able to make better use of their possession. Passing triangles formed down both flanks and the whole team showed a real patience in their build up play. Jason, pressed in to service as a left back in the absence of Lewis, was a worthy Man of the Match. The understanding shown with Joe on this side, allowed them to exhchange positions and the overlap was hugely successful. The other flank also worked well, with Nathan worthy of a mention for his passing and movement on the right.

Shaun made the most of his opportunities to complete a good hat trick, with Tissy scoring the fourth.

.

18/11/07     Randlay 3,  Perton  4  (League)

The effort put in by the whole team really deserved the reward of at least a point from the game. Against a good Perton side, the spine of the team competed well, with Hayden and Steevo really sticking to their task in centre midfield  and the defence  working equally as hard. Goals from Steevo and Tissy, plus an own goal were not quite enough on the day. Man of the match was James, who was the pick of the wide players, combining good forward play with determined closing down when not in possession.

.

11/11/07 Randlay 4,  Oakengates Colts  1  (League Cup Quarter Final)

A keenly contested game, good to see the side come back from conceeding an early goal. Good performances, particularly through the spine of the team. Goals were again spread with contributions from Daniel Tisdale (1), Shaun Barker (1) and Adam Stephenson (2). Man of the match was Captain Craig Lawrence for a composed display at centre defence.

.

28/10/07  Randlay 6, All Saints 1 (League)

Another good performance, good use of possesion.

As a team we are now winning more in the air than in early matches .

There are still lessons to learn and particularly important is the shape of the team, which was lost in the last 20/30 minutes, particularly in midfield.  We continue to share goals around the team with Jason (2), Shaun (2) and Sam (1) all getting on the scoresheet, plus an Own Goal from a deflected cross/shot. Well done to Mathew Bethel for a convincing debut in goal and Shaun for a brace of goals capping a display of strong forward play in his first game out of goal.

Man of the match was Hayden for a controlled game in centre midfield.

.

.

21/10/07 Shifnal 0, Randlay 12  (League)

A convincing win against a Shifnal side who continued to play, despite the scoreline.

Goals from Steevo (3), Tizzy (3), Hayden (1), Hazim (1), Joe (1), Mussy (1)  and Jason (2), but more importantly a great team performance with quick movement of the ball, accurate passing and good movement off the ball. Man of the Match was Gareth Baker who was excellent defensively at right back and also offered a wide outlet on the wing

.

.

14/10/07 No Game (Bye in League Cup)

.

07/10/07 Randlay 3 Roman Road 5 (Charity Cup)

A fully commited Charity Cup game. Only decided by 2 Roman Road goals in the second period of extra time. A quickly assembled defence performed really well. Stand-in captain Mussy had a great game at right back, as did Man of the Match James who competed for everything in midfield. 2 great long distance goals from Gareth and Lewis and a penatly from Steevo were almost enough to win the tie. Well done all.

.

30/9/07  Perton & Codsall 9 Randlay 1

A poor display, again no lack of effort, but positional discipline was poor and the team as a whole did not win enough challenges, especially in the air. A good goal in the form of a lofted shot from outside the area from Jason Nandan was little concillation

There wasn't really a performance worthy of Man of the Match so it wasn't awarded!

.

.

23/9/07 Randlay 0 Oakengates Rangers 5

The final scoreline was a bit harsh and didn't reflect the amount of effort put in. It did however, accurately describe how well the team played as a team.

Effort does not equal application and it is the latter that we need to ensure  that we concentrate on. Man of the Match again was Craig Lawrence in central defence.

.

.

16/9/07 Oakengates Colts 2 Randlay 1

A disappointing Randlay performance against a hardworking Oakengates Colts. The only Randlay highlights being another long range goal from Adam Stephenson and a determined Man of the match performance from captain Craig Lawrence who was not 100% fit.

.

9/9/07 Randlay 3 Broseley 0

Well done to the whole squad for a good performance.

Close range goals from Daniel Tisdale (32 mins) Jason Nandan (65 mins), seperated by a magnificent 20 yard free kick from man of the match Adam Stephenson (44 mins).
